CES is developing a fully automatic charging robot

Continental Engineering Services (CES) is developing an intelligent charging robot for electric vehicles that will make filling up with electricity much easier and more convenient in the future.

The fully automatic charging solution comprises two components: one unit in the underbody of the vehicle and another on the garage floor. Once the car is parked over the ground unit, the two components connect automatically via a smart system.

The system will be offered for use in private households with a suitable rating of 22 kW alternating current. In a second step a fast charging solution for public areas with a charging capacity exceeding 50 kW direct current will be developed. Older vehicles can be retrofitted with the fast charging solution. First near-production systems will be developed within 2022. The volume production of the system is planned for 2024 and will take place in Germany.

Dr. Christoph Falk-Gierlinger, Managing Director of Continental Engineering Services, is convinced that the fast-charging solution is a real step forward in the evolution of electric mobility to make it more comfortable and convenient for everyday use.
