Continental Engineering Services (CES) is seeking a Functional Safety Engineer to lead/support the FSM (Functional Safety Management) initiative for various in-vehicle automotive systems within the Continental portfolio.

Your Tasks

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Drive/steer, support and monitor the implementation of the FSM (Functional Safe Management) conformal development process as required by the project(s)
  • Provide expertise and leadership to develop FSM team
  • Support to application teams for identification of root cause for issues and corrective action plans
  • Lead technical discussions (prepare / present responses) with customers
  • The ideal candidate is disciplined and can foster a team environment
  • Planning and coordinating of all safety related activities in order to provide the safety case
  • Creation of the Project Safety Plan as part of the overall project plan
  • Planning and coordination of FSM reviews and supporting the outcome
  • Development of the Safety Concept strategy with project team
  • Collection and integration of the individual functional safety concepts
  • Creation of safety related topics in the customer Design Interface Agreement (DIA) document
  • Support the performance of the safety & reliability analysis (e.g., FMEA’s, FTA’s)
  • Support the creation of test cases to verify and validate the safety concept and design
  • Responsible for development of new work products, and changes to existing work products
  • Assistance with other tasks as needed and determined by Management
  • Contact between two more departments to facilitate and ensure appropriate exchange of knowledge
  • Support meetings with cross functional project team, hardware/test team, and customers as needed
  • Experience with automotive electronic/electromechanical products
  • Good communication skills with CES team, internal & external customers
  • Experience managing customers, suppliers, and teams
  • Experience with warranty and reliability of electronic components
  • Familiar with design verification and validation testing
  • Familiar with customer electronic design requirements
  • Experience leading program and platform team meetings

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide technical leadership and build the awareness of functional safety within the group
  • Ensure all aspects of production processes for software and calibration programming are properly executed and followed
  • Responsible to lead projects and people to meet customer expectations
  • Develop, maintain, and communicate software development content and timing
  • Responsible for development of new products, and changes to existing products
  • Responsible for performance evaluation and merit rating of their subordinates
  • Actively mentors, coaches, and provides guidance to developing engineers and team members within the organization
  • Understanding of Automotive Electronic/Electromechanical Products
  • Good communication skills with CES team, internal & external customers
  • Experience managing customers, suppliers, and teams
  • Experience with warranty and reliability of electronic components.
  • Familiar with design verification and validation testing
  • Familiar with customer electronic design requirements
  • Experience leading program and platform team discussions
  • Experience with Automotive Electronic/Electromechanical Products
  • Advanced knowledge through extensive directly related experience
  • Creates value through the ability to integrate knowledge from different areas of specialized knowledge

Your Profile

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor degree Mechanical / Electrical Engineering or equivalent field
  • Minimum 2–5-year experience with degree
  • Familiar with automotive development process
  • Experienced with ISO26262
  • Must have effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to work in distributed global team environment
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project
  • Self-motivated with strong troubleshooting and analysis skills
  • Familiar with Requirements Analysis tools (DOORS or similar)
  • Must be willing to travel (approx. 10%)
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5-7 years’ experience
  • The ideal candidate is disciplined and can foster a team environment.
  • Experience in driver assistance electronics or other safety relevant products
  • Experience with FMEA methods and tools (such as APIS IQ FMEA)
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
