Continental Unveils New Lightweight, Affordable Detectable Light Jacket to Boost Road Safety for All Ages
Continental Engineering Services (CES), in collaboration with French outdoor specialist Urban Circus, has introduced the Detectable Light Jacket – a lighter, more affordable version of its high-visibility jacket designed to improve safety for cyclists and pedestrians. Available in both adult and children’s sizes, the jacket offers outstanding nighttime visibility up to 300 meters, utilizing award-winning micro-glass bead technology.
The lighter design makes it suitable for extended seasonal wear, while its fluorescent and reflective inserts enhance visibility, making it significantly more noticeable to the human eye than conventional high-visibility jackets. This innovation ensures greater road safety, especially for vulnerable users like children.
“The Detectable Jacket is a true success story and we received very good feedback from cyclists and pedestrians who appreciated the increased safety. Yet they also asked for a lighter version that can be worn even in milder climates, as well as children’s sizes. Award-winning technology at less weight and costs
The differences to the original Detectable Jacket are obvious: a slightly adjusted cut without the hood and an adjusted carrier fabric render the Detectable Light Jacket the perfect outerwear all year round. That way, it presents a more affordable option for adults as well as children. The micro-glass spheres used in the fabric inserts of the jacket increase visibility by the human eye up to 300 meters at night. As a result, cyclists and pedestrians are better protected from accidents, even in the dark.
Earlier this year, the unique technology was awarded with the prestigious SAFETYBEST 2024 Award from AUTOBEST.org, an organization of leading motoring journalists from 31 European countries, recognizing groundbreaking solutions designed to enhance the safety of vulnerable road users.
